I'm trying to shoot more and more as a kind of crash course in photography. I've no formal training or lessons, and I'm positive that I've more often been subjected to the process rather than guided it, by hundreds and hundreds of times over. Everything I know about photography I learned from minoring in Film Studies. Which means I know nothing technical about film and light and everything and nothing about what film means. That's more nothing than anything. This sums up my college experience. Thinking about it now, I wouldn't want it any other way.

That's What's Up...

I'm not sure anything will ever come of this. Other than itself, of course. Unfortunately I can't help but compartmentalize my life. Thinking backwards or forwards in time, it can't seem continuous, but rather a long (or short) series of beginnings and endings. Units, which vary in time and importance, depending on ones state of mind at the moment. The brain is a curious thing, and I'd like to think that it does this for my benefit, though I'm not sure that's always the case. And so I partition off here the beginning of this. More than likely it will be at maximum, three entries. I will then forget or neglect. Become bored or uninspired. This may very well be the last one, and so, the end as well.

And so I'll begin here and end here with a quote from one of my favorite authors. It bubbles up some thought in me whenever I'm beginning or ending. It pulls my mind back in time, to places and people, (myself included, being not now who I was then). However, reading it holds my thoughts tightly in the present. But most importantly, I put it here because I haven't figured out how to post pictures yet.

"I left the woods for as good a reason as I went there. Perhaps it seemed to me that I had several more lives to live, and could not spare any more time for that one. It is remarkable how easily and insensibly we fall into a particular route, and make a beaten track for ourselves. I had not lived there a week before my feet wore a path from my door to pondside; and though it is five or six years since I trod it, it is still quite distinct. It is true, I fear, that others may have fallen into it, and so helped to keep it open. The surface of earth is soft and impressible by the feet of men; and so with the paths which the mind travels. How worn and dusty, then, must be the highways of the world, how deep the ruts of tradition and conformity! I did not wish to take a cabin passage, but rather to go before the mast and on the deck of the world, for there I could best see the moonlight amid the mountains. I do not wish to go below now."
